The Golden Acres Curling Club is proud to offer a variety of leagues that accommodate a wide range of curlers.
Whether you’re a recreational player or someone competitive; if you’re young, old or somewhere in-between, we are sure to have a league suitable for you.
Learn more by selecting one of the leagues that interest you from the list below.
1. What is a 6 X 6 league?
A: A 6 X 6 league is a different way to experience league curling. You play 6 ends per game. And you commit to 6 weeks of play. At the conclusion of the 6 weeks, a new 6X6 league begins!
2. When does the league start?
A: The league will run on Mondays at 6:30 pm.
Session 1 : Nov 11 - Dec 15
Session 2 : Jan 6 - Feb 10
Session 3 : Feb 24 - Mar 31
3. Can I register in more than one session?
A: Yes! You can choose to play in one, two, or all three sessions.
4. What is the cost?
A: If you are not already a full GACC member, the costs is $175 per person per 6-week session. But, if a person plays in all 3 sessions, they will receive a discount on Session 3 so that they only pay the equivalent of a regular full-year membership. If you are already a full GACC member, the cost will be $20 per session.
5. Do I have to put together my own team to register?
A: If you have your own team of 4, that’s great. But if you are a single, a pair, or a trio, the convener will help you network with others who have registered to complete your team.
6. Do I have to have experience to play?
A: The short answer is “no”. Whether it be this league, or others at our club, we often have a handful of people who join a league with little to no experience. But, if you don’t have any experience with curling, and are hesitant about playing in a league, you are encouraged to register for TRY CURLING NOW (Our club’s Adult Learn-to-Curl program. See the website for more details). Upon graduation, you will be ready to join Session 2 and/or Session 3.
7. Can I have different teammates for each session?
A: Absolutely.
8. Why is there a new league?
A: Men’s league used to operate on 2 nights each week (Monday & Thursday). All Men’s league play has shifted to Thursday night, and so, a new opportunity for Monday night exists. The idea behind this new league is to create a more flexible way to be involved in curling at our club. Not everyone can commit to a full-year league. Not everyone can play 8 ends. There can be countless reasons as to why someone may find this league a good fit for them.
9. Will the bar be open after each night of games?
A: Come on. Why would you ask that? Of course the bar will be open! The winner buys the first round!
